Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Port Services and Harbour Master, the incumbent plans, implements, and oversees all occupational health and safety (OHS) and fire prevention activities to ensure a safe environment across the various port facilities. He or she ensures regulatory compliance, manages risks, prepares for emergencies, and actively contributes to the development of a culture of excellence in occupational health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

  • Identify and analyze risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OHS policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities (docks, warehouses, loading areas, buildings, offices).
  • Coordinate employee OHS training and certifications.
  • Supervise the application of safe work practices (confined spaces, lockout/tagout, working at heights).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal laws and regulations.
  • Participate in OHS committees and ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and recommend preventive measures.
  • Support the enforcement and compliance with OHS laws, regulations, and policies (under federal jurisdiction).
  • Ensure the onboarding and integration of new employees in occupational health and safety.

Fire Prevention and Emergency Measures

  • Plan and supervise the inspection of fire protection equipment and systems.
  • Ensure compliance of evacuation plans and coordinate emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with municipal services and partner emergency response teams.
  • Coordinate training, drills, and equipment for the port emergency response teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or university certificate in OHS or relevant training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in occupational health and safety.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention.
  • Knowledge of the maritime/port environment (an asset).
  • Bilingualism (an asset).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work on docks and aboard vessels.
