The Port de Sept-Îles takes its responsibilities seriously when it comes to environmental protection, pollution prevention and sustainable development. We strive to minimize the negative impacts and environmental risks that may be associated with our operations. To that end, the Port is committed to abiding by 5 key environmental principles.

Environmental compliance

Ensure that our and our tenants’ operations, facilities and activities comply with applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations.

Environmental protection

Ensure that our and our tenants’ operations are carried out in a manner that prevents pollution, minimizes negative impacts and environmental risks and protects the quality of the environment.

Sustainable development

Implement processes to develop targets and programs to support the continuous improvement of our environmental performance in the spirit of sustainability.

Environmental management

Design, implement and maintain an environmental management system that uses clear metrics and processes to measure our environmental performance.

Communication

Communicate this policy to our employees, tenants and the community to demonstrate the Port’s commitment to the environment.

The Port of Sept-Îles is a founding member of Green Marine, an environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry. 

A characterization study of the bay of Sept Îles ecosystem is being conducted by the Northern Institute for Research in Environment and Occupational Health and Safety (INREST).
