The Port of Sept-Îles has been a local port authority since 1999. With state-of-the-art facilities and services, the Port of Sept-Îles is a key player in the national economy thanks to the synergy of its socioeconomic, environmental, and community partnerships based on the responsible development of its operations. A dynamic, dedicated, and enthusiastic team has guided the organization’s strong growth in recent years. To keep pace with this development, we are now looking to add new talent to our management team.

Mandate

The incumbent will be responsible for the overall financial management of the Port of Sept-Îles. They will ensure the efficient production of all financial information for the port authority, while optimizing financial resources and cash flow. They will prepare financial justifications for capital projects and be responsible for land management, as well as the authority’s various commercial agreements.

We’re looking for a motivating leader who can make decisions independently and take initiative. This person works well under pressure and adapts easily to a variety of situations, showing versatility.

The ideal candidate is highly professional, politically astute, and able to manage priorities with precision thanks to exemplary organization and planning skills. They also possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to pull information together to process complex financial data and draw relevant conclusions. They have outstanding writing skills, enabling them to communicate clearly and effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with accounting and financial policies
  • Validate periodic financial statements and present financial information to decision-making bodies
  • Ensure the organization’s financial performance and propose solutions
  • Oversee annual audits and the production of audited statements
  • Coordinate budget preparation and consolidation
  • Manage cash flow, financing, and investments
  • Ensure effective management of real estate assets, payments, and insurance
  • Draw up financial projections and analyses
  • Work with various departments for commercial partnerships and leases
  • Actively contribute to the establishment of organizational priorities, policies, and objectives, taking into account financial realities
  • Support business initiatives to promote growth and development
  • Participate in risk management analyses of financial resources and control measures
  • Represent the organization in dealings with financial institutions and external entities
  • Participate in various port network committees and maintain harmonious relations with internal and external clients
  • Foster the engagement of employees under their supervision by developing and implementing sound management practices

Required qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting
  • Specialized graduate degree (DESS) in a relevant discipline
  • Membership in Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (CPA)
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including IFRS
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry (asset)
  • Excellent command of French, both oral and written
  • Good command of English, both oral and written
